I'm a Hoy's Five and Ten employee. I find a lot of people have things to say about the staff. I've only worked there this summer, but I worked my butt off pleasing customers and keeping them happy. So did my co-workers. Hoy's provides great employee treatment and I love my job. The only thing that spoils it is when rude CUSTOMERS treat me badly because I'm a teenage employee. But I treat customers with respect either way. And happy vacationers basically make up for that. Hoy's can get pricey and VERY busy in the summer, but it's got pretty much everything you need and is a very fun store. Next time somebody has something they want to say about our employees, they should ask themselves if they treated them with respect instead of shooting them down because they're young.

Lots of knick-knacks and souvenirs...for a price

Hoy's sells all kinds of different things from local souvenirs (t-shirts, postcards), to toys, candy, cookware, greeting cards, etc. It's designed to be a one-stop shop for just about everything but groceries while you visit the NJ Shore. In this respect, it does a pretty good job. You do pay for this convenience though as virtually every item is price 10-20% (or more) above retail. The store's aisles are fairly narrow which creates a problem when the store is crowded. The staff seems competent but usually unwilling to attend to customer requests. Hoy's scores high marks for selection and convenience but charges a premium for their goods.
